This is a pretty weird kit. It's supposed to be the Furst/Keaton
Batmobile with the fenders and fins jettisoned. It was pretty much
a one-line gag from "Batman Returns", Tim Burton's second,
and last Batman movie. But the very existence of the kit makes it
odd. And I am attracted to odd!
It's a "SnapFast" kit with the parts molded in black
plastic and includes a tree of chromed parts and one "smoke
tinted" windshield. The windshield looked pretty opaque to
me. The parts fit is actually very good with minimal flash, and
there was very little in the way of ejector pin marks so there is
very little clean-up to be done.
As far as accuracy, I can't really vouche for anything, seeing
as I can't even find a picture of it! As I've said, It's supposed
to be the Batmobile with the fenders and fins jettisoned and the
wheels brought into an "in-line" configuration. Looking
at the kit, quite a few liberties were taken to make everything
fit. The driver's compartment only has a driver's seat, whereas
the Batmobile is a 2-seater. The entire right side of the dashboard
is missing. Oh well, most Tim Burton movies demand a certain amount
of suspension of disbelief, and this kit follows suit.
With logic and reason locked safely away, I can look at this
model and I can say that it's pretty good looking. Forget that it
makes no sense, that if Robin was sitting in the passenger seat,
he would look like he went through and industrial shirt folder (he
didn't show up until the Schumacher movies anyway) forget that it
can only go in a straight line and that it's massively phallic looking.
It just looks cool and, therefore, will be built! |
